- Children with advanced technology- In today’s society, technology had become more prevalent in our everyday lives. Technology such as iPhone’s, iPads, laptops, and so many more are very beneficial in our world but can such technology be abused by our youth? Children are allowed cell phones younger and younger these days, which is not necessarily a good thing, especially in the classroom. Students abuse school policies on the usage of cellular devices therefore reducing their learning experience. Whether children should be given cell phones at such a young is the deciding factor on how well they are educated.
- 2. Beauty is being taken for granted. Women are too focused on having those Barbie doll figures that we no longer no what beauty each individual holds. Society has made us believe that there is only one beauty in this world today. We fill that we have to have the perfect figure and be a size 2 when we shouldn't worry and embrace our inner and outer beauty. Botox, liposuction, and tummy tucks are what options women have at still looking young and charming. When will we decide to love who we really are and not what we want to be?
- 3. College is the biggest gateway for one night stands. You meet someone at a party, exchange numbers, go out on a date and then you give the goods up without even knowing their name and who they are. They are skipping the getting to know the person phase because it’s easy for them to get the transactions and find another victim to prey on. Campuses are having to deal with sexual harassment or assault. Campus is supposed to be safe but is lacking security and ensuring that they will be protected from these incidents.
These are great ideas, Chase. In the technology idea, there is great potential. Right now, we're starting with really big topics, but I might want you to think about where you want to end up for this topic to help think about your speech for Monday. Do you want to comment on the use of technology specifically in school? (which could be interesting as there are commercials and initiatives to get tablets in school) Or are you thinking more as technology as a substitute for parenting? Or technology as a substitute for reality? I think all are viable options that you have in this wide topic. I'm curious to see what you're most interested in.
ReplyDeleteBeauty is a fascinating and large topic. I think it's incredibly important to talk about this and there are some interesting angles to talk about, especially with so many websites revealing celebs without make up and Aerie's recent campaign to show "real girls" who are not airbrushed in their ads. I would ask that you consider some of the more recent moves in your approach if you choose this topic, or find a fresh way to approach it. That may be talking about such recent campaigns or it might be looking at beauty standards across genders. But that will help to limit the massive possibilities for research that you could end up wading through.
I find the wording in your third interest fascinating. This could be taken several ways as far as topics. I'm wondering whether you're most interested in this kind of "hook up culture" of college, the idea of hooking up as a "transaction" or sexual harassment/assaults on campus or campus security? It could be how all of these things are interrelated, but I'm curious as to whether one sticks out the most to you.
