One of my favorite websites to look at is UK athletics. I go to UK athletics webpage if I want to know about what sport teams are playing, what the season is looking like and also just to be a part of the Wildcat fan club. The audience for this particular page is UK fans, students, alumni even parents that are interested in looking at a school’s athletic program. It is able to draw you in because it has numerous of pictures, font is a nice size and has few colors. The color scheme of course is that Kentucky blue and white. They have news that is up to date on the left hand corner that usual has a line and a picture to go with it. Then in the middle is top stories, followed by countdown of a special event coming up. UK’s athletics webpage stands out to me every time because I know that it will still be the same, the only change is of the top story. It doesn’t try to persuade other people to look at the cite it is there for students, and fans that want to know more about what is happening in the sports world at Kentucky. It is very easy to follow because it is broken down into tabs of areas viewers will look at when getting on this site. It has images that will draw fans into looking at, with a calendar of events to come. All in All when looking at the Kentucky Athletic webpage it makes you think what a great experience it is to be a Wildcat where the atmosphere for sports is a number 1 thing. Take a scroll to the webpage I’m sure you will be pleased by all it has to offer you, it might even put a smile on your face and chant OOOOOOOOO C-A-T-S CATS CATS CATS!!! http://www.ukathletics.com/

Stakeholder

The stakeholder that I choose for my groups topic is the economic impact that undocumented  immigration has on us. I chose the economic stakeholder because this is where undocumented immigrants receive their finances and I felt that this was a stakeholder I could interact with well because I feel for what they go through just to be an American like me and others. The argument in made by my stakeholder is how having immigrant workers is a positive and negative to the world. In the article the Davidson and two other colleagues says, "The main argument in support of undocumented immigration is that migrant workers do jobs that Americans do not want to do (1)." Americans complain about jobs and what not but don't want the jobs being taking away from them. The negative is that Americans are selfish and hate that the immigrants are taking these jobs such as, "construction, restaurants, and agricultural produce; because of prices being lowered by the immigrants impact in these jobs" ( 1). This is true if the wages are lowered Americans won't take them so therefore the immigrants get the jobs to provide for their families. The positive impact that immigrants have on the economic is what money they get comes back to the government in some way. Matthew says that on the flip side, "much of what undocumented workers earn is cycled back into the economy via their purchases and their low wages, which cut prices for American consumers." By them buying stuff the money that they earn goes to us so therefore they are not only taking away from the US economy. How do we know if the undocumented workers have a negative or positive impact in our economy and what factors do we use to say if they our negative or positive?

Reflections

I would first like to say that being recorded help me pin point a lot of my flaws in public speeches so I am happy to have been recorded so that I can see what I as the speaker liked about the speech I gave and where I should practice to get better at speaking in public. So thank you for recording the class speech without warning I think I would have hyperventilated knowing I was being recorded.

  From hearing my speech I picked up on a few errors that I tend to make when speaking about a topic. I freeze up or get tongue twisted because I want the audience to see my passion for the topic and know that I did a lot of research on the topic and have a clear idea what the issue or problem is at hand. When this happens it gets harder for me to talk because now I have the class looking at me, waiting to hear me tell them why I am standing up wasting their time. I had some moments when I stutter because I was getting excited about how the audience was enjoying and interacting to what I was saying.

I need to remember to take a deep breath count to three and give it my all even if it means looking like a fool. I am more focused on the wrongs in the speech because things I’m good at doesn’t need work. If I can get the viewers’ attention from the start it will be smoother for me to relax and feel comfortable talking about a topic even if it is something that I can talk about for hours. I must conquer my fear of public speaking.

In all I think that I am getting better and better every time I speak in front of a class. I got the audience’s attention and they were interested in my topic so that’s all that matters and I am happy to know I am not being judged for not being a fluent speaker.

Controversies

1.     Children with advanced technology- In today’s society, technology had become more prevalent in our everyday lives. Technology such as iPhone’s, iPads, laptops, and so many more are very beneficial in our world but can such technology be abused by our youth? Children are allowed cell phones younger and younger these days, which is not necessarily a good thing, especially in the classroom. Students abuse school policies on the usage of cellular devices therefore reducing their learning experience. Whether children should be given cell phones at such a young is the deciding factor on how well they are educated.          
2. 2.       Beauty is being taken for granted. Women are too focused on having those Barbie doll figures that we no longer no what beauty each individual holds. Society has made us believe that there is only one beauty in this world today. We fill that we have to have the perfect figure and be a size 2 when we shouldn't worry and embrace our inner and outer beauty. Botox, liposuction, and tummy tucks are what options women have at still looking young and charming. When will we decide to love who we really are and not what we want to be?
3. 3.       College is the biggest gateway for one night stands. You meet someone at a party, exchange numbers, go out on a date and then you give the goods up without even knowing their name and who they are. They are skipping the getting to know the person phase because it’s easy for them to get the transactions and find another victim to prey on. Campuses are having to deal with sexual harassment or assault. Campus is supposed to be safe but is lacking security and ensuring that they will be protected from these incidents. 

Three things that annoy me is when people ask me am I mad and I tell them already I am fine, its like they want me to be mad when the situation doesn't bother me. Another thing that annoys me is when my mom would make me get items for her and she would be close by it or near it. The last is people who don't value what they have enough.

POST 1

Five things that interest me that are potential argument topics are, The weather, apparel, music, instagram pictures and the true meaning behind love.

• The weather is a big argument because where some people know what it is like to be in a cold environment others aren't, so when it was mid-October and people that I am friends with were wearing coats and looking at me funny made me wonder why they thought that it was cold to the point they needed a heavy coat on for them to get to their destination. Yes I am from the north and i am use to the cold so when I say I hate the cold or oh my god I'm ready for summer its because the cold month is something my body can never get use to no matter how long I have lived in a place where it has WINTERS!!!
• apparel in today's world interest me because so many people want you to dress to impress where its never really a big deal as long as you are covering your body. When people see that I am a more causal dresser they assume that I am homosexual which is not true, I just rather wear clothes that are comfortable to me and something I like wearing. It interest me because fashion is become the biggest factor in judging other people. We don't take in to consideration if this person was or an athlete, if they don't like dressing up or if its just something that makes them wear those clothes for a certain period of time.
• Music is a very argumentative topic because of the different genres and the lyrics true meaning that people no longer no what real music is. Older people feel that rap has corrupted are kids into these gangster, criminals who talk about sex and money and aren't educated enough to help keep kids in school. It interest me because music is suppose to tell a story and write a picture though sounds and rhythm but we can no longer relate when the music has little to know meaning.
• Instagram is a social media network where people post pictures of pretty much any and everything. The argument is that some people pictures don't match their personal appearance; filters hide the truth and are lies told on the internet all for a couple of likes. It interest me because photos have been taking to a whole new level, people are praising celebrities that have no clue who they are and could careless about them. Instagram isn't like twitter and Facebook is it giving the viewers a look of what you are and things you like.
• Meaning behind love. The argument is that love is something between two people that you care for deeply, so if that is the case why is it that we love more than one person and think that it is okay. My opinion because we don't know the true meaning behind love we can't show it or give it because we are afraid that someone will abuse are love for them. It interest me because as a freshman in college you are looking for someone to share my life with but first I must know what love really is.

A little about myself, I am the first in my family to go to college, i am african american. My birthday is June 06,1995 and I'm a gemini. I love to read and play basketball in my free time. I am ready for another successful semester at UK, GO WILDCATS!!!!!!!!!
